Job Description
The Innovation Co-Lab is looking to hire a new position of Program Manager.  The person in this role will work with the Co-Lab Team to plan and deliver a series of well-connected technology classes, and begin to build a more cohesive curriculum around technology education.  They will be responsible for developing overarching curriculum goals, securing instructors for classes, and at times, delivering workshops, including in topics we already teach (web development, mobile development, programming, etc) as well as new topics.  They will also be responsible for operational coordination of the program, including communications with students and other instructors, scheduling, attendance, feedback gathering, marketing, and more.  They will also help with outreach to faculty and partners across campus to envision and carry out new programming. Other duties outside of these core responsibilities will include general coordination of other Co-Lab programming, events, marketing, etc.  The position will report to the Manager of Academic Technologies.  
 
 
 
Work Performed
 
  • Oversee day-to-day operations and program oversight for the Innovation Co-Lab’s Roots program – our technical training program for students, faculty and staff.  In this area, responsibilities include:
    • Identifying instructors from across campus to teach classes and working directly with them to ensure the quality of classes and connectivity of curriculum
    • Delivering training through the program, including teaching new or existing classes in web/mobile/development/innovation/other areas
    • Identify and work with complementary programs across duke to develop a cohesive ecosystem of co-curricular learning opportunities, taking advantage of existing resources and developing new services where appropriate
    • Coordinating with instructors on classes, descriptions, time, and connectivity with other offerings, and developing the schedule for each semester
    • Developing a flowing curriculum which encourages attendees to continue learning beyond a single class
    • Regular communication with students and instructors
    • Marketing the program to increase attendance, awareness
    • Regularly seeking feedback through a variety of means to continue improving the program
    • Working with faculty and staff partners across campus to ensure we are meeting the growing needs of technology training at Duke
    • Scaling in new ways across campus, including investigating alternative class structures like flipped classes, online classes, and more
  • Design and execute new programming to engage our student community, and representing the Co-Lab in larger OIT/Duke efforts including student outreach, tech fairs, and other events
  • Marketing the Co-Lab program to students and partners across campus, including through newsletters, social media channels, tabling, events, and other communications
  • Providing mentorship, guidance, and support for Co-Lab students as they engage in project-based learning efforts
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Job Qualifications
 
Required
  • 1-3 years Program/Project Management Experience, ideally in Higher Ed
  • Ability to build, maintain, and develop effective relationships with students and colleagues from different backgrounds and levels of technical ability
  • Teaching / training / public speaking experience and comfort, to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Basic understanding of web technologies, for example: HTML, CSS, Javascript, other languages
  • Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make decisions
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow-through on tasks and communication in a timely manner
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to continuously learn and assimilate new technologies and skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of projects 
  • Ability to delegate and make best use of additional student support
  • Self-motivated, can identify problems and propose/implement solutions working across departments and teams
  • Interest in creating in a new model for co-curricular learning in Higher Ed
 
 
Preferred
  • Familiarity with version control through Git
  • Familiarity with programming hardware and “Internet of Things” technology like Arduinos, Raspberry Pi, and Photons (or similar)
  • Familiarity with web programming languages like Ruby, Python, or others
 
 
Education / Training
Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related fields preferred but not required) and experience in program management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
