Summary

The Application Analyst II couples knowledge of information systems to implement maintains and support Duke Medicine IT applications. This includes responding to user tickets, applying vendor software updates and upgrades, assisting with reporting, and system and application monitoring.  
 

Work Responsibilities
  • Experience working with an enterprise messaging system. 
  • Troubleshoot paging software and mobile devices including Android and iOS.
  • Create paging reports with various tools including Crystal Reports.
  • Experience in application support and flexibility to support tasks such   as:   system administration, system monitoring, log review and software installation.
  • Performs analysis, research, problem duplication, troubleshooting and identifies potential resolutions for operating system, application and resource contingency issues.
  • Evaluate and test software applications, compile data and produce relevant reports.
  • Harden operating systems and applications including knowledge of information assurance best practices to meet security standards.
  • Conduct daily system monitoring and system maintenance activities including system activity and utilization.
  • Maintain documentation related to application administration and operations.
  • Investigate system performance issues to improve the reliability, maintainability and performance of the system.
  • Ability to understand periodic operating system patches and security updates and analyze the associated impacts on various application interfaces.
  • Is proactive and learns new tools and technologies and supports the installation/configuration/upgrades of active applications. 
  • Ability to adapt to the quick dynamics of technology shifts based on requirements and technical solutions.
  • Performs Application administration for software running on Red Hat Linux and Windows Server.
  • On-call application support including afterhours and weekends

  • Understand the principles of application systems development and use them to analyze, test, implement, maintain and document IT projects. Identify the features, advantages and disadvantages of various software applications.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Prioritization skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work on a flexible schedule
  • Strong research and documentation skills.
  • Some relational database and operating systems experience with SQL
  • Able to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field, or four years of equivalent technical experience required. 

Experience

Level 1 - No experience required beyond the minimum education (or equivalency) requirement. Level 2 - Two years of related experience is required.
