SALARY RANGE: $81,458.00 - 130,333.00 ANNUALLY


The Director of Economic Development is the driving force behind economic development in Nash County, North Carolina.  The person in this role will collaborate with 11 towns and municipalities within Nash County to understand each area's vision for economic growth.  Job duties include but are not limited to the planning, developing, and assertively recruiting/retaining major employers, industries and businesses for the purpose of enhancing the Nash County economy, as well as broadening the tax base.




Applicant must reside in Nash County or be willing to relocate to Nash County within 6 months of employment. 

 Essential Duties and Tasks:

Plays an instrumental role in promoting Nash County as a great place to live, work and conduct business


Act as the lead contact in the recruitment and retention of business and industry for Nash County.


Recruit businesses by meeting with representatives to determine their needs and make presentations concerning Nash County economic information; assist businesses by acting as a liaison to the County.


Assist companies and site location consultants considering Nash County as a place to do business.


Assist with fundraising from the private sector businesses of Nash County.


Coordinate the site location search process with local, regional, and state economic development partners including private sector partners.


Collaborate with the local Community College and Public School System to help businesses and industries develop an appropriately trained local labor pool.


Develop and maintain good working relationships with management of existing Nash County businesses and industry and provide services to assist with expansion projects.


Track active projects and prospect inquiries from companies, brokers and consultants.


Demonstrate the ability to plan, complete tasks, and monitor results within established deadlines.


Collaborate with other County entities to plan business and industry relations special events.


Research and catalog Nash County assets and make information easily accessible by the public on the County website.


Apply knowledge effectively and use creativity to solve a wide range of problems.


Take responsibility for own professional growth/education. 


Attend local and national trade show events to market Nash County as a preferred business location. 

 Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:

               Experience in economic development, project management, commercial real estate, business development and/or marketing.


               Ability to negotiate business recruitment packages.


               Outstanding communication and presentation skills including excellent computer skills with the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite modules.


               Ability to analyze data, work with numbers and provide accurate information to potential businesses and industries looking for information.


               Marketing and Advertising skills and knowledge with creative and innovative ideas for promoting Nash County as a great place to do business.


               Knowledge of Nash County zoning and ordinances in relation to development; knowledge of the processes for making changes to zoning; and ability to assist a client through the process.


               Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule with some evening and weekend work required for special events, conferences and training attendance.

 Desirable Education and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Marketing or related Field.  Candidate should a minimum of 5-10 years of successful, demonstrated experience implementing economic development related strategies and techniques, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
