The Community Employment Specialist will provide direct supervision and prepare individuals with developmental disabilities for supported/competitive employment by instructing tasks and work habits related to community living skills.  Instruction may be on a competitive work site, workshop setting or mobile crew.Job responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide job coaching and support to our individuals, breaking the job down into manageable components, training the individual to perform the job duties, and providing on-site job supervision and support for the individual in meeting goals
  • Participate in evaluating, observing and documenting individual progress toward meeting goals.
  • Participate in studying job duties and determining wage and hour rates
  • Maintain records on time and work performed by individuals
  • Adhere to state, and vocational program goals and guidelines
Salary Grade: GN07
Recruitment Range: $32,703.00 - $41,000.00

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • General knowledge of the variety of work environments including manufacturing, service, or trades and their job requirements
  • Ability to develop a rapport with employers, other involved human service professionals and the population served
  • Demonstrated skills in documenting time, data and recording various methods of training
  • Ability to interpret data and recommend future areas of training
  • Ability to learn marketing needs behavior management techniques, development of goals and task analysis and various instructional techniques
  • Ability to learn and follow OSHA, wage and hour laws
  • Ability to communicate observations and recommendations effectively in written and oral form
Management Preferences:
  • Experience in vocational work settings with knowledge of wage and hour guidelines
  • Knowledge of time keeping records kept on individuals employed
  • Successful completion of NCI and CPR; a Clear Valid Drivers License
  • Experience driving oversized delivery vehicles, forklifts,and or operating hand carts
  • Experience providing vocational instruction to the adult ID/DD population in a sheltered workshop or community setting
  • Effective writing skills and ability to follow written and verbal directions
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems
  • Effective organizational skills and exhibit flexibility in day to day routine
Physical Requirements:
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Other: Stooping, Kneeling, Couching, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, Hearing, Repetitive Motions, Visual Acuity, Inside and Outside Activities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor s degree in a human services or business field such as human resources, marketing, business administration, business management, healthcare management, or public administration from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate s degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
