Overall Job Objective

Description of Work


The Occupational Therapy Assistant performs professional duties as assigned by the supervising therapist.  Duties include conducting treatments (individual and/or group); performing evaluations; collaborating with therapist to design interventions; and educating various staff to improve carryover of preferred occupational therapy practices.  The Occupational Therapy Assistant must have the ability to make accurate relevant observations; ability to follow instructions and/or adjust to adapt actions and meet changing needs of clients and situations; ability to produce clear and accurate statements documenting professional actions that were performed;  ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written) with supervisor, colleagues, staff and members of the various care teams; and the ability to manage time to achieve expected level of productivity.

The job requires working some hours outside of the 8:00 am – 5:00 pm times specified as the work schedule.

Salary Grade GN09 - Recruitment Range - $ 36,677.00 - $ 62,092.00

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies


To receive credit for all of your work history and credentials, you must list the information on the application form.   • Documented experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD), geriatrics and/or clients with mental health problems.
Management Preference:
  • Preference given to individuals with work experience involving: services to individuals with intellectual disabilities (particularly adults); community integration training; training self-care skills; eating/feeding or meal-related evaluations and interventions; work in psychosocial settings; lymphedema treatment; splinting for contracture management; and skin health and wound healing.
  • Preference also given to assistants who are currently certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
     

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

 

Licensed to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of North Carolina and two years of related experience.

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
