SEASONAL PROGRAM ASSISTANT I
at Town of Cary, NC
- Herb Young Community Center and Middle Creek Community Center seek a program assistant to help with implementing summer programs and camps at both community centers. Will be based primarily at Herb Young, but will need to be able to travel to Middle Creek as needed. Time frame for this assignment will be May 20 - August 16 and will be scheduled up to 40 hours per week during the assignment.
Assists PRCR staff in program implementation, project development and other special projects; performs routine clerical duties, such as data entry and general office duties. Obtains and dispenses accurate information concerning departmental programs. Handles specific jobs as set by supervisor; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the general supervision of PRCR regular staff. Work may require public contact, depending upon specific assignment. May require driving.
Work schedule will vary depending upon assignment; and may include evenings and weekends.

Data entry and registration assistance;
General office duties, such as copying, filing, and record maintenance;
Assists with camper drop off and pick up;
Telephone contact with the public;
Email participants with camp information and updates;
May assist with special events;
May assist with creating marketing pieces, such as posters or flyers;
Distributes supplies and materials to program participants;
Chaperones youth and teen field trips;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires good organization, computer and some marketing skills; general knowledge of computers and related software; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; good organizational skills; general knowledge of marketing programs and events; ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline; skill in the operation of common office equipment; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to communicate effectively; ability to deal with the public in a firm but tactful manner; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the division and department; ability to maintain filing systems.
- Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old with high school diploma or equivalent;
Requires at least 1 year of experience in office/clerical/public contact work with proficiency in using computers and related software to enter information and create communications;
Requires valid driver's license with acceptable driving history;
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification, and credit history review) prior to employment.
